Dajipur Sanctuary or Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary. Dajipur Jungle – Land of Gaur. A chance to re

Situated at the border of Kolhapur and Sindhudurg districts, the highlights of Dajipur Abhyaranya are its charming birds, spectacular Radhanagari dam, and abundance of wildlife. The place is home to ‘Gava’ buffalo and therefore often well-known as Bison sanctuary. If you have an adventurous side, stay in the Jungle resort and listen to the voices of the animals thrilling your mind every now and then, Moreover, the place consists of a wide variety of flora through which a cool breeze flows and provides a calming experience. Animals such as antelopes, bears, and chital are also seen here often. Go for a trek on the hills or just roam around the jungle, this wildlife sanctuary is always ready to give you a delightful experience.

Dajipur Sanctuary or Radhanagari Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the catchment area of Sahu and Laxmi Sagar in Kolhapur. The Sanctuary is spread over a vast area of 351 sq. kms, which is covered with trees of Anjani, Jambul, Hirda, Awala, Pisa, Ain etc. The place is rich in both flora and fauna and dwell some of the rarest medicinal plants. The area is rich in Laterite and Red soil and is also known producing the highest percentage of Bauxite. Mining is one of the threats the wild animal population here.

The Sanctuary is a habitat for bison, Leopard, Sloth bear, Wild boar, Barking deer, mouse deer, sambar, Giant squirrel and Wild dogs. A large number of reptiles, amphibians and birds can also be sighted.

Sanctuary is also widely known as the "Bison Sanctuary" because of the relatively large number of Indian Bison or gaur here. Overnight Accommodations is available at forest rest house – ‘Dak bungalow’ and also there is a dormitory run by Forest department

The Bison National Park in Dajipur is the primary attraction in Dajipur. The National park is open from November to June and is closed during the rains. Jeep safari in the sanctuary is an exciting option. The Ponda Ghats is another attraction and the view from here is magnificent. The Radhanagri and the Dajipur lakes offer some very calm and soulful moments and makes the whole experience of a trip to Dajipur absolutely fabulous. Dajipur is 60 Kms from Kolhapur.

Ponda ghats

Ponda ghats is at a walking distance from Dajipur and a must visit during your stay at Dajipur. The view of the valleys, hills and the plains extending upto konkan from the Ponda ghats is absolutely magnificent. The SH 116 passing though Ponda ghats meets the NH 17 at Kankavli, making Dajipur a great stop over one the way to southern Konkan beaches like Malvan and Vengurla and also Goa!

Dajipur is one of the best campsites in Maharashtra and for all you campers out there, Dajipur is a definite destination that you have to check out. The Radhanagri and the Dajipur dharan or the lakes offers some very calm and soulful moments and makes the whole experience of a weekend in Dajipur just fabulous. The site near the lake near at MTDC rest house is perfect for camping.

Dajipur is an off beat weekend destination one one of the shortest routes to Malvan especially from Pune. The SH from Kolhapur to Radhanagari is not in the best of conditions however the drive through thick forests with the lake on one side is very beautiful.
